In my experience, Rabbi Ben Zion was a very incisive analyst of general and particularly Jewish trends. He was a courageous and outspoken critic of what he saw as immoral social behavior, regardless of the social standing of the incumbent. Such people are sorely missed in the strange and amoral world we find ourselves in today.
I was fortunate to spend time with the Rabbi in his latter years. I was often astounded by his unflagging commitment to Torah study, despite many difficulties and physical distress. It was a life experience to sit with someone who constantly wanted to hear and discuss דברי תורה while in excruciating pain, I do not know how he did it. But he did, and taught me life lessons I hope to be able to pass on to another generation. יהי זכרון ברוך.
